Welcome to the Home Page of the Bromley Evening Decorative and Fine Arts Society (BEDFAS). We are one of three NADFAS groups in the London Borough of Bromley, the others being North Kent and Beckenham; we celebrated our 25th anniversary last year.
Our aim, in line with that of our parent society, is to promote an appreciation and understanding of the decorative and fine arts. These arts range across the fields of paintings, sculpture, architecture, furniture, porcelain and jewellery.
We have nine illustrated lectures per year, covering a broad range of topics. We meet in the evening, and our lectures commence at 7.45pm, generally finishing at about 9.15p.m.
The visiting speakers who come to talk to us are enthusiastic and qualified in the wide range of subjects covered by the term Decorative and Fine Arts. They are assessed by NADFAS and are all experts in their field. You will find information about each of them, together with the title and subject of their talk on our lecture page
In addition to the monthly meetings, we make visits to museums, galleries and historic houses in London and the Home Counties. There are opportunities for volunteers to keep active and make new friends, as well as doing something useful, by joining projects whose aim is to conserve and preserve our artistic heritage. We arrange Study days, when we look at subjects in greater depth than is possible in a one-hour lecture, and 4-5 day guided tours, both in the U.K. and overseas. In the last few years we have visited Cardiff, Glasgow, Nice, Normandy, Dresden, Krakow, Belfast, Munich, Northern Ireland and Umbria to name a selection. In 2011 we went to Oxfordshire in June and to Lisbon in September. We hope to go to Berlin in April (22nd - 25th) but the viability of this tour will depend on the number of people wishing to join us. If you are one, do contact Diane Chorley, our foreign Tours representative, soon since a decision has to be made before early December.

The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts ( NADFAS ) is the umbrella organisation of over 340 societies and promotes the arts and heritage conservation. NADFAS opens up the world of art in the widest sense for everyone, and in the words of the founder, Patricia Fay, wants NADFAS activities 'to be fun'.
These courses are available to members and guests, and non-members.
VOLUNTEERING - Your Help is Needed!
A number of places are open and anxious for the help of anyone willing and able to devote a little of his/her time to a worthwhile cause. They offer the opportunity to make a closer acquaintance with the chosen subject in the company of like-minded people who may become friends. The beginning of the winter is a good time to 'test the water' and Audrey Oliver will be more than happy to help you find a placement that appeals to you.
